Hey guys, Chestnut here! I’m also called Piggy. I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself. I came from a pet store in New York City. I was the only guinea pig left at the time. So, when the Broderick family brought me home, I was a little older than most piggies. Johnny named me Chestnut because of my fur color.
Believe it or not, there are actually several guinea pig breeds. I am known as a Teddy Guinea Pig. The reason for this is we look a lot like a stuffed teddy bear. Take a good look at my close-up picture… you’ll see the resemblance in my face, especially my nose. This unique nose of the Teddy Guinea is called a Roman nose.
My coat is kind of wiry and not as soft as other guinea breeds. While I still need to be brushed, my fur is considered very low maintenance. Teddy Guinea Pigs have the best temperament! Most people say this because we get along well with people and families, as long as we are treated with kindness and affection.
I will tell you I am highly social. I’m also known to be a good cuddler, just ask Emily. Even though I am a very social animal, I also like to wander around by myself in my cage. I pace back and forth making little putt-putt sounds while snacking on my hay. This seems to clear my mind. It is where I do my best thinking. I have done a lot of problem-solving using this method.
Emily often says I am quite the chatter box. I make a wide variety of noises, especially if you rattle a bag that might contain delicious goodies.
Speaking of food, I am strictly a vegetarian and am a constant grazer. I will graze on my hay all day long. Yum! My favorite vegetable is radicchio and my favorite fruit is watermelon. You could say I am very food driven.
I consider myself very intelligent. I love to read and make sure I watch the news. I like to know what is going on in the world around me. I’m usually full of interesting facts, which I love to share.
My timid, quiet demeanor comes in handy when I am trying to get information. Plus, thanks to my size I can easily squeeze into tight spots. My color allows me to blend into many backgrounds. These are perfect advantages for sleuthing. As you will find out in my story, I am also a great listener. I personally think this is one of my best traits. All these traits help me observe people without them being aware. Therefore, if you are up to no good Piggy P.I. will know!
